The Legend of Chun Li

Postby kheel » Mon Mar 08, 2010 6:25 pm

Terrible movie.

Anyway, I was wondering, what are some of Chun Li's better pokes/anti-airs? You'd think it would come somewhat naturally since I feel like I picked her up relatively easily... But I really don't have much idea as to what I'm doing with her. Obviously turtling is a must, yet a concept thats completely new to a Viper/Sakura/Ibuki player. I can do it, but I never want to. I may have to buy a stick soon, I can't find a means of reliably mashing to get her Lightning Kicks out, and since Ibuki will utilize the same wall of High Jump Cancelling that scares padders away from her, I may need the stick for the easier route with her as well. It looks like I'll be maining Ibuki and Chun Li in super and learning some Juri and Makoto for when times get rough.

tl;dr

I want some tips on Chun Li's great pokes/anti-airs.

Square Gate vs Octogate?

What's a good stick to start with?

Are there any system universal sticks? [Since I currently only own a PS3 but you all primarily play on 360.]

Her roundhouse is good anti-air

I recommend square-gate, it's default anyway (on arcades and TE controllers). It seems like it would cause problems but I find it helps to point out where the corners are.

For a universal stick i think you have to either order from a place that makes them custom, or get a standard TE or SE and then mod it. They make boards you can solder in to make em universal. I'm thinking about getting this done right now myself.

Roundhouse and crouching roundhouse are both very good anti-airs. Standing Jab works well too depending on spacing.

If you have the money, get a custom stick. I recommend Arcade In A Box (they built my custom, which turned out pretty well), and it works on the PS3, 360, and PC (and since we have the same laptop, it'll work for sure in yours too). It's a bit pricey -about 260 or so- but it's easy to replace parts and takes a beating. Alternately, just get a 360 TE and check out the "Chimp Thread" by Toodles on SRK. I can help you with soldering if you go that route.

Get a square gate. It's not only hip to be a square, but it's cheaper too.
