Skullgirls is an instant favorite. For most of the day Saturday every monitor in the house was playing this!

Trying something new here, I’ve set up some Round Robin tournaments on Challonge for the community that anyone can join and participate in.

For now I’ve done one for each game we’re running at the ranbats, but we can do more if people want.

WHAT IS IT?
An organized way to get more people in the community playing together, in an effort to help each other improve.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Go sign up to participate, you will need to create a Challonge login, please make your username something people can easily identify you by so they’ll know how to get in contact with you and set up your match.

Once signups have ended we will have a round robin tournament set up, get with people and set up a time to play your games (online or in person) and record the results.

I don’t want to split or limit this by system, but be warned I think we have more Xbox users. If you can’t find a way to play a match against someone then just move on, when we end the league we’ll record all these matches as draws.

We’ll run this for a few months at least or until all the games are completed, there are no prizes or anything but it will be a good way to see where you stand. If this goes well we can run one every so often and you’ll be able to track your progress.

Round Robins are limited to 40 people, if we go over that we’ll create another tournament and even things out.

FORMAT
Play a first to five match using tournament standard rules (best 2/3, loser can change characters, no gems, etc.)

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS
After you’re done playing have a discussion with your opponent (in person, voice chat, Facebook, etc.) about the series, both of you can talk about your strategies going into the match, how they changed during, tips on the matchup, things to improve on, anything that can help people level up. The more discussion the better, the idea is to get people talking and sharing ideas and feedback.

We had a very interesting and…..festive St. Patrick’s Day Ranbat last week. We had a great turnout despite the holiday. We also had some (obviously) fierce competition from the east side of the state. Overall it was a great night with great company. Big thanks to all of those who traveled 2+ hours to attend and to those who cut their St. Patrick’s Day festivities to hang out.

Casuals this week WILL NOT be at GrandLan. Smurf will be hosting casuals instead which means no venue fee! This will also serve as a housewarming party so be sure to make it out.

Lets avoid the “I hope your ______ was ______.” formalities and cut straight to the chase. A lot has happened since the year started so here’s a quick run down of the action.

Frosty Faustings IV was on the 7^th of this month. First place went to MCZ|MRN Wolfkrone. However, a couple of local players placed in the tournament as well. Holden ‘Holdy’ Isom took 9th place, while Ben ‘OctopusOnFire’ Wilson took 10^th. The tournament stream was archived; so if you’re patient you can see them in action. Octopus also did a review of the tournament on The Fighters Alliance website.

On the 14^th our very own Slappy participated in what was supposed to be a Michigan Vs. Illinois 5v5 tournament at Experience Points in Elkhart, IL. While the tournament was plagued with last minute cancellations and an impending snow storm Slappy still attended; and even took 3^rd in the tournament.

Lastly (almost done) we have the upcoming events for the next couple of weeks. Keep in mind that these events will be posted on the GrapSF calendar, and updates will be posted when needed.
