About

I moved here in 2004 and there was no apparent scene in GR. By 2009 I was sick of not knowing anyone who played locally so I decided to get a local scene going. I started doing google searches to find local players profiles and messaging them. On July 25th 2009 I got my first response via SRK (Chauncy).

Confident in having at least one other interested player in the area, I went ahead and opened this site on July 26th 2009 and continued sending out messages to everyone I could find by doing web searches. More and more people were signing up on the forums and getting to know each other and eventually on August 15th 2009 we had our first meeting for casuals at GrandLAN Gaming Center in Downtown GR.  Besides myself, we had in attendance: Mr. Baggs, Chauncy, G-Boobie and Singe.

We grew quickly (our second meeting had more than twice as many players) and soon began to have tournaments, house parties (including a yearly anniversary party), and carpools for major events. We changed venues a few times, besides GrandLAN we’ve also played at Skynet (ULX) and GamerDoc. G-Boobie started doing RanBats, which Chauncy and I continued.

Eventually we got tired of paying $15 venue fees at LAN centers and so on July 9th 2011 we began doing a series of fundraiser casuals in our homes for the same price. We soon had enough to purchase our own lag-free evo monitors and X-Box 360 consoles. Since we only needed venue space now and not equipment, we were now able to negotiate a much lower $5 venue fee. Shout outs to KelterSkelter for the idea, and keeping track of the donations/purchases. Also to everyone who donated, especially Swifty for pitching in some brand new X-Boxes.

Over the years we have attracted some players from the larger East Michigan scene to show up at our events on occasion, but nothing large-scale. On August 26th 2011 however, we partnered with Gamerati to throw our first regional tournament for the whole state, Power Glove. This got a lot of players from the whole state to show up and was a huge success!

We’re still meeting weekly, trying to grow and improve the scene. Come out and join us!

GGs,
Slappy
